Appreciation

We live in a time that challenges our need to be connected to the earth and to family and loved ones, to better understand ourselves. To be standing in an open field, watching the sun rise or set, centers the individual in countless ways. Sharing this experience with someone close to you can be very memorable and peaceful.

Appreciation is a painting about what it means to be connected to the land in the Cowichan Valley, and how the First Nations feel about their land and themselves.

It shows two women who have been picking berries looking back at the town with the lights in the background, watching the sun set and appreciating that they are alive and healthy and their culture is still going strong.
